These eco-friendly lamps are handmade by a small Fair Trade group in the Philippines.
They are made from real leaves, which are harvested from living trees (and grow back quickly).
The leaves are pressed and dried for about four months. Some are left a natural color -- off white or light brown, while the rest are dyed with bright organic dyes to achieve stunning colors.
Skilled artisans then carefully cut out and arrange the leaves. For strength and safety, they are adhered to a sheet of heat resistant material.
The resulting fabric is then cut to the proper shape and stitched to a metal frame using Abaca or Durian twine.
In keeping with our eco-friendly approach, we recommend using CFL bulbs with these lamps. They are very efficient, using a fraction of the electricity of incandescent bulbs, and generating little heat. You can use any wattage CFL available.
